COVID VACCINE GUIDELINES
MCFS Mission Statement: To empower diverse individuals, children, youth, and families to gain a greater capacity to succeed in their communities
Dear MCFS Family,
Many of you have asked us about the COVID-19 vaccine and how can we help you get the vaccine. We have worked diligently over the past few weeks to get your questions answered and get the vaccines delivered to you at our MCFS office, if at all possible.
In consultation with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Pennsylvania Department of Health, we would like to share the following with you:
COVID VACCINE
A COVID-19 vaccine made by pharmaceutical companies, Pfizer and Moderna, has been approved by the FDA and made available.
Millions have already taken the vaccine, and it is reported to be safe and effective.
ELIGIBILITY FOR VACCINE
Not everyone will receive the vaccine at the same time. The Pennsylvania Department of Health has created three phases for people receiving the vaccine. Those who are most at risk of getting COVID will receive the vaccine first and are in Phase 1A.
Phase 1A
- Long-term care facility residents
- Healthcare personnel
- Persons not directly involved in patient care but potentially exposed to infectious material that can transmit disease among or from healthcare personnel and patients
- Coroner, Medical Examiner, and Funeral Staff
- Direct Support Professionals
- Persons aged 65 and older
- Persons aged 16-64 with high-risk conditions
VACCINE AVAILABILITY
- As of now, the COVID vaccine is not available at your doctors’ offices or local pharmacies.
- The COVID vaccine is not available for groups in offices; therefore, MCFS will not be giving the COVID vaccine to its employees or elders.
- The COVID vaccine is only available at certain centers and to individuals who are eligible and fall into the Phase 1A category.
